* Not getting enough sleep – this is one of the hardest things to deal with. Getting enough sleep is one of the keys to distressing. This is the time when the body repairs the damages caused by stress. If you’re not getting enough sleep, often the stress cycle will feed on itself. You don’t get enough rest to feel refreshed to deal with the new or ongoing issues that will confront you throughout the day, which makes you feel more stressed…

* Relationship troubles – having issues with your significant other that you’re aren’t dealing with, or that are unresolved, places you in an inherently stressful situation.

* Work or job worries – We spend a large proportion of our time at work. When things aren’t going well there whether due to the economy, our performance, or conflicts with managers or other coworkers, stress at work will affect all of our life areas.

* Extended family issues – conflicts with family members can be the hardest of all, especially since these relationships are unique, unchosen, and life-long. Stress can be because of things they are doing or saying to us, or things that are happening with them that we worry about.

How to Avoid Getting into Stressful Situations in the First Place

One of the best ways on how to manage stress is to avoid getting into stressful situations is to make sure that you are well organized and that you are not over-booking your day. Attempting to schedule too many things on the same day is a recipe for stress. Find a calendar organizer that you are comfortable using and use it. Whether it is an old fashioned paper calendar, or a modern electronic device, keep it with you and use it to keep track of your commitments. Feeling over-committed or like you are forgetting something you committed to adds to your stress levels.

Look at the places where you are currently experiencing a lot of stress. If it is from the area of major life changes, these are usually events that you can’t avoid. Take the time to plan these in advance when possible. When they happen outside of your control, know that you will need to reduce your commitment levels in other areas in order to reduce your stress levels.
Some Techniques to De-stress

The following is a list of things that you can do on a regular basis to reduce your stress levels. The more of these that you can incorporate into your daily routine, the more you should be able to reduce your stress levels:

* Regular Exercise – Exercise is one of the best ways to combat stress and stress related problems. Even just walking for 15-30 minutes each day will help to improve your situation. Of course if you can also get in 1-1.5 hours every other day, that will go a long way to reducing your stress levels.

* Watch your diet – Eat a well-balanced diet with lots of fruits and vegetables. Cut back on the caffeine. These will help you to lower your stress levels as well, by helping to keep your overall body chemistry what it should be.

* Schedule some down time – If you don’t put it on the schedule, when will it happen? Everyone needs to take some time for themselves to rest and to reflect on their lives. This doesn’t have to be a trip to the day spa. It can simply be a time when you take a moment to write in a diary, or go for that walk, or relax in a bubble bath. Just do something to direct your focus and care back on yourself.

Learning how to manage stress is so important in our fast paced world. The best thing I did was realize that nothing is the end of the world except of course the end of the world which hasn't happened yet.

I always thought everything was way too important before.
