Migraine headaches are among the most popular diseases of the 21st century. More and more people suffer from migraines on a daily basis which is due to the modern way of life. The fast rhythms’ of modern life, full of stress and pressure to achieve more and more create and exaggerate this terrible disease. Although in the majority of the cases the presence of migraines is not a sign that you have a more serious health problem, the headache pain that accompanies migraines is enough to destroy your daily life. There are cases of people suffering from migraines almost on a daily basis and this substantially reduces the quality of life. The pain which is sometimes very intense does not allow people to do anything else but sit down and relax until the pain is gone.

Many scientists and doctors are trying for many years now to find ways to provide migraine headaches treatment. Although they made some progress in the right direction still there is not a definite way to get treatment from migraines. There are medications available used to get relief from the pain and to prevent the migraine crisis but there is still no way to completely get cured from this disease. So, it is important for sufferers to know about the different available ways to get treatment from migraines.  In this post we outline the different methods you can use to get treatment.

1. Specialized doctors: Since migraines affect a lot of people and need special attention and treatment there are doctors who are specialized in this area. These doctors have more knowledge than GPs about headaches and they can make a proper diagnosis about your headache problem and of course provide the correct and most effective treatment. It is important that you get the opinion of such a doctor to help you deal with your migraines. Almost in all counties there are dedicated Headache centers that you can visit and get the assistance you need.

2. Medications used for the treatment of migraine headaches. As mentioned above there are medicines available that can help relief the pain from migraine headaches. The most common type of these medicines is in the category of triptans and they can be taken only after the prescription and order of the doctor. These medicines are more powerful than normal pain killers and can make the pain milder or sometimes make it disappear completely. The bad thing about these drugs is that they cannot be used to provide complete treatment from migraines, but only to prevent and ease the headache pain.

3. Botox. Studies found that botox can also be used for the treatment of migraine headaches. Currently botox is used for cosmetic purposes and to cure certain other diseases. It has been proven though that botox can also be used for the treatment of migraine headaches. Patients who were suffering from migraines and took botox injections noticed that the pain became milder and the frequency of migraines was reduced. In some cases people have reported that when they took botox injections while suffering from migraines the pain was immediately reduced. The only disadvantage of this method is the cost and the fact that you can to visit a doctor to make the injections.

4. Natural ways to get treatment for migraine headaches. Besides the medical ways to use for the treatment of migraine headaches there are also other more natural ways you can use to get relief from the pain. These ways cannot provide complete treatment but they can be used to provide immediate relief from the pain. Such self help measures include:

>> Changing your lifestyle: We said above that one of the major causes of migraine headaches is due to the lifestyle. If you make changes to your lifestyle you will be able to prevent on some extend migraines. These changes may include working less hours and resting more. Eating at regular times and not skipping any meals and avoiding situations that cause you anxiety and stress.

>> Dot not eat foods that are suspects for causing migraine headaches. Although this may not be true for all people there are certain foods that are suspects for causing migraines. It is good to avoid these and see if your situation is improved. Such foods include: chocolate and sweets, dairy products, fried foods, caffeine related drinks, alcohol drinks, red wine, cheese.

>> Fasting and weight loss. It is a fact that people who are fasting or following a very tight weight loss diet are more likely to suffer from migraine headaches. If you have a predisposition to migraines then you better avoid fasting for long periods and also do not follow any weight loss diet that dramatically reduces the amount or type of foods you are allowed to eat. It is very important to keep a balance and schedule with your meals so as not to triger stimuli that can cause you headache pain.

>> Sleep at least 8 hours per day. Sleep can help you relax and it is suggested that you keep a regular sleeping pattern and try to sleep for at least 8 hours per day. If for some reason you break and constantly change this pattern then it is more likely that this will create migraine headache pain during the day. Try to maintain a constant sleep schedule.

>> Food supplements. Vitamin B2 and magnesium are known to help ease the headache pain. In the cases that you do not take enough of this vitamins as part of your main meals you can consult your doctor if is suitable to take some food supplements that contain B2 and magnesium.

>> Eat more fish. Some studies show that fish can help ease migraine headaches. Although this does not work for all cases you should add more fish to your daily diet. Fish is a very healthy food and it is many times better than meat in terms of healthiness and nutritional value. Also you can eat fish oil supplements which can also help ease the pain.

To sum up, if you are one of the people suffering from migraines, then you should not leave the situation occurring with out taking actions. The pain from migraines is terrible and can create problems to your daily life activities. Make a note of your situation (frequency and intensity of pain) and visit your doctor to find the proper treatment. You can also try the self help measures to get relief from the pain as a first step for the final treatment.

I should have saved $300.00 consult with my neurologist and just read your hub. So helpful. Something else that helps is Wal-Greens muscle rub..I know it sounds nuts..but put it on the base of the neck and the temples..kind stinky..but it works in easing the pain.

Informative hub. Another tip I have read is to make sure you are properly hydrated. Yet, another reason to drink plenty of water.
